Street Photography September
With the sun staying out from Summer time, September turned out to be a pretty awesome month in terms of light. I took advantage of this but taking my camera with me and walking around Downtown Vancouver.
I've been contemplating putting together a book of Downtown Vancouver and the various scenes and daily moments I've seen throughout the last few years but I'd like to maybe take a few more years of photos before creating a book.
Canadian Journalism Foundation: "How The Vote Was Won" Event
I don't have much to say about this event so I'll let the photographs tell the story this time. The event started with a brief reception and was then followed by Moderator Tom Clark addressing the panel of four speakers about the 2015 Election and How The Votes Were Won. Near the end, people were able to approach a microphone and ask questions of the speakers about the recent Canadian election. There were laughs, there were opinions given and there was live tweeting too! #CJFjtalk
The Elegance of Horses
There's something about horses that mesmerizes me. The ferocity, the movement, the power... an entire situation of chaos being controlled by a bridle and a saddle.
I recall visiting the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan and seeing that Hayao Mayazaki spent many an hour (day? Week? Month? Years?) creating animations of horses and their movement as he watched it on a screen. This affected me profoundly for my own vision. While the application is different (I'm capturing specific moments through photography instead of trying to capture and animate the intricate movements of horses), I feel that horses represent a bit of a starting place and a centering place for me: Amidst the chaos and the uncontrollable situations of horses and riders jumping, I have to watch them carefully, calm myself down, focus and just shoot... and get it right.
Walter and Marcy - Seconding Wedding Assignment
Culture shock. That's the best way to describe it.
My day started at the Italian Center located on Slocan St and Grandview Hwy in Vancouver. This was actually my first time ever stepping into the Italian Center and it was quite an experience to be exposed to so much Italian culture in a short span of time. While photographing Walter with his groomsmen in the Italian cafe, there was ordering of pizza and cappuccinos, soccer (Italy vs... ???), a gelato freezer and an Italian flag hanging right in plain view.
Musea Test Prints
If you love your images, get them printed. Period.
I recently received some test prints back from the folks at Musea and was completely blown away by the quality. We were given 4 different papers to try out (so each picture you see represents a different paper) and while I liked some over others, they all brought out amazing qualities in the photos that were just not there when looking at the images from a screen.
Marco and Bianca - Seconding Wedding Assignment
I have a lot of fun when I get a chance to be a second shooter at a wedding. For this wedding, I was privileged to work with Kirill Bordon Photography to create amazing memories for this amazing couple. Kirill and I are both film shooters and both have a great enjoyment for the medium we use. Film is fun and we love the results that we get to give to our clients.

Regardless of where you may be in life, I enjoy creating photographs that tell a real authentic story of who you are and photographing true life moments. This is quite different from sessions whereby you are posed and asked to "stand there" and "say cheese". I leave directing to a minimum.
